On the 23rd anniversary of Sept. 11, several events in the New York City metro area will honor the late FDNY chaplain Br. Mychal Judge, OFM, and the other victims who died in the aftermath of the attacks.

Walk of Remembrance  

The annual 9/11 Walk of Remembrance will take place on Sept. 8 in New York City. The walk traces the route Br. Mychal took from St. Francis Friary to the World Trade Center on 9/11, with stops at fire stations and police precincts to remember those who were killed or injured. 

The schedule: 

9 a.m.: Rosary outside of the Church of St. Francis of Assisi at 135 W. 31st Street, New York, NY 10001. 

9:30 a.m.: The walk begins at Engine 1, Ladder 24 FDNY (31st Street and Seventh Avenue) 

Noon: The walk ends at St. Peter’s Roman Catholic Church, 22 Barclay St., New York, NY 10007 

There is a regularly scheduled 8 a.m. Mass at St. Francis before the rosary. All are welcome to attend. See the church's website for details. 

Memorial prayer service 

Franciscan friars and parishioners of several New Jersey churches will gather for a memorial prayer service at Br. Mychal’s grave on Sept. 11 at 1 p.m. on the Union Boulevard side of Holy Sepulcher Cemetery, 52 Totowa Road in Totowa, New Jersey. 

Friars and parishioners from St. Anthony’s in Butler, St. Mary’s in Pompton Lakes, and St. Bonaventure’s in Paterson, will take part, along with the Knights of Columbus Council No. 240. 

All are welcome to take part in the memorial for Br. Mychal and all who died in the attacks, and to pray for their families and friends.
