Br. John Frambes, OFM, 77, passed away on Sept. 10, 2024, in Beach Haven, New Jersey.  

A native of Atlantic City, New Jersey, Br. John entered the Franciscan Order on Sept. 2, 1973; made simple vows on Aug. 24, 1974; professed solemn vows on Dec. 1, 1979; and was ordained to the priesthood on Dec. 8, 1979.  

Much of Br. John’s ministry was spent in higher education in various roles at Siena College in Loudonville, New York. He served as director of the Career Resource Center and vicar of the friar community from 1979 to 1984; campus minister from 1987 to 1993; vice president of student affairs from 1999 to 2000; and director of campus ministry from 1994 to 2001.  

In between his stints at Siena College, Br. John served as director of formation and guardian of the friar community in Winsted, Connecticut, from 1984 to 1987; parochial vicar at St. Francis of Assisi Parish in Beach Haven, New Jersey, from 1993 to 1994; at St. Anthony Shrine in Boston, from 2001 to 2002; and in ministry at the Franciscan Center in Greensboro, North Carolina, from 2002 to 2005.  

Br. John went on to serve as pastor of St. Joseph Parish in Wilmington, Delaware, from 2005 to 2013. Since 2014, he had served as parochial vicar at St. Francis of Assisi Parish in Beach Haven.  

Br. John is survived by family members, friends and friars of the Province of Our Lady of Guadalupe. 

A wake will be held from 4 to 7 p.m. on Sunday, Sept. 15, with a prayer service at 7 p.m. There will be a viewing from 10 to 11 a.m. on Monday, Sept. 16, with the celebration of the Mass of the Resurrection at 11 a.m. All services will take place at St. Francis of Assisi Church, 4700 Long Beach Blvd., Brant Beach, NJ, 08008. Br. John will be buried at 1 p.m. on Tuesday, Sept. 17 at Holy Sepulchre Cemetery, 52 Totowa Road, Totowa, NJ 07512.
